WordPress Install Woes — SOLVED!

September 22, 2008

Trying a fresh install of 2.6.2 turned my otherwise idyllic Sunday evening into a huge fluster-cluck. It forced me to update all of the other WordPress installs and update the database in hopes of a fix. None was forthcoming.

The error began like this (see it in its full glory at the bottom of the screen shot):

WordPress database error Table ‘wpwebloggist.sux_options’ doesn’t exist for query INSERT INTO sux_options (option_name, option_value, autoload) VALUES …

Not being a huge PHP/MySQL guru has kept me at a disadvantage in figuring this out, but there were others who possessed those attributes having the same issues. I knew enough to know that it was a problem beyond my install. Googling turned up dozens in the same situation and dozens of threads trailing off without solution.

Finally, this morning, I tripped over this post (http://wordpress.org/support/topic/197678), and scrolled to the bottom. “Tristan63” had a workaround that involved installing WordPress 2.5 RC3 and then upgrading.

Sucks to have to do an install/upgrade on a new site. Someone please fix — I have another site I’ll need to build next week.

Thankfully, I was able to rip through about 5 episodes of Lance Krall’s hilarious “FREE RADIO” on the second monitor. That levity probably saved me at least a few hundred dollars in gadgety shit being tossed out the window in white-hot rage. Thanks Lance — you’re always there for me.
